About Cultural Intelligence and Unconscious Bias

Canadian workplaces are becoming more diverse. Effectively managed, a diverse workforce offers organizations a competitive edge through innovative and creative thinking, enhanced decision-making, and improved employee engagement, productivity, and profitability. However, when not managed well, diversity can present serious implications for organizations, such as cultural clashes, communication challenges, biased decision-making, and employee mistrust.

At MCO Consultants, we firmly believe in mitigating unconscious bias in human resources management programs, practices, policies, and procedures. As such, we prioritize cultural intelligence (CQ), promoting its benefits and integrating it throughout our HR consulting, recruiting processes, and solutions.

Cultural intelligence, which involves effectively collaborating with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds (such as work unit, gender, age, and race), is vital in disrupting unconscious bias.

MCO Consultants’ principal consultant, Mercy Oyet, is a certified CQ® facilitator, a certified CQ® Your Bias facilitator, and a subject matter expert on cultural intelligence. She helps organizations recognize and disrupt unconscious bias across organizational HR functional areas through individual coaching and team workshops on CQ development.
